In the Sunday post for local Los Gatos papers and San Francisco Chronicle, an interesting piece of human interest lights up in the X-Factor system and for anyone reading. Specifically, because it mentions Jean-Paul Beaubier and Titan Enterprises. It only mentions them in the way that they remark over a generous donation Jean-Paul Beaubier, former Olympic team member and current Titan Enterpises employee, made to a local homeless shelter for gay and lesbian youth to the tune of 500,000.00 dollars.

We have settled in to the new server this morning. Everything should be up and running with a few bumps and hiccups along the way. If you run into any problems, let anyone on the 'staff' list on game know and they will fix it, pass it along, or file it.

Now, about the wiki and the forum. If you can only connect to the game via IP (for more info see http://xmenmovieverse.livejournal.com/161449.html), and you can't view this forum thread -- http://xmenmovieverse.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3290 -- then your ISP's DNS has not updated yet. Do not update the forum or the wiki. You are trapped in the past.

If, however, you can connect to the game just fine and that forum thread loads without a problem -- well, then you are free to do whatever. Go nuts.

Game Up

The game is up. You should try to connect to xmenmovieverse.com:7007. If that does not work, our IP is 174.133.80.138:7007.

If you can only connect by IP, please do NOT try to update the wiki and/or forum. You are looking at the wrong one. Instead, do this:

http://www.whatsmydns.net/flush-dns.html

Make sure that you run it as admin. When you can click on this link and see the post, you are fine for forum stuff: http://xmenmovieverse.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3290

WIKI IS GONNA BE COMPLICATED. You can view it now, but you can't edit it. And yes, there's gunk all over it. We know. But you can still view it.

I think the servers are being switched atm, thus why the game is down. (At least, I hope it's down for everyone and not just me. Because I am selfish like that.)

edit: We're back up, mostly. If you're having trouble logging on, try connecting to: 174.133.80.138:7007 instead of the domain name. And everyone give Tez a big sloppy kiss for getting things set up quickly.

Journal meme

Today I had people:

1) Ask for icons and
2) Promise me they would journal they totally want to get back into the habit.

YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS.

Journal Meme

The rules:

- Average a journal a day over 30 days. That means 30 journals in 30 days, but it does not have to mean every day or every log.
- Count is kept per player, not per character, so if you want to do half on one character and half on another, that's fine.
- Journals, scenelets, and personal-type IC communication (not mission communication) such as email all count.
- There are no length requirements. There are no quality requirements. Just write, and you win.
- Because this is an average and not a per-day requirement, you can join at any time.

Winning:

- If after 30 days you have 30 journals, you win! Honor system, as usual.
- Winners will get one icon, made promptly (I PROMISE) by me. I'll ask you to provide 3-5 pictures for me to choose from again.
BONUS: If you manage to do 45 journals in 30 days, I'll make you TWO icons. If anyone manages to make it to 55, I'll do set of 5-7.

So! Rather than flood LJ with the list, if you consider yourself a participant, leave a comment here. Today is the first day of of this challenge, which makes the last day September 22. (Since August has 31 days, I'm giving you an EXTRA BONUS DAY)

Yes, the website is down. No forum, no wiki. No, I'm not sure why. Yes, we emailed the host. Hopefully we'll have it up soon! You can still log into the game just fine.

Carbon for Water in Kenya

Village Vert's landmark Carbon for Water initiative provides more than 1 million free Lifestraw family water filters to communities in western Kenya, a region with limited access to clean water.

With a means for at-home access to drinkable water, locals no longer need to burn firewood for purification, resulting in carbon emissions savings. Watch the video to learn more about the company's commitment to Kenya and how carbon credits will help provide clean water equipment and training for years to come.

For more information, see http://www.good.is (and replace every instance of Vestergaard-Frandsen with Village Vert).

Horn of Africa sees 'worst drought in 60 years'

Some parts of the Horn of Africa have been hit by the worst drought in 60 years, the UN says. More than 10 million people are thought to be affected across the region. The UN now classifies large areas of Somalia, Ethiopia, Djibouti and Kenya as a crisis or an emergency.

Charity Village Vert says drought and war in Somalia has led to unprecedented numbers fleeing across the border into Kenya, with about 1,300 people arriving every day. Three camps at Dadaab, just inside Kenya, are home to well over 350,000 people, but they were built to hold just 90,000 and are severely overcrowded. Kenya's internal struggles and corruption play a significant factor in the difficulty of aiding refugees.

A prolonged failure of rains, which began in late 2010, is now taking its toll. The UN's Office for the Co-Ordination of Humanitarian Affairs (Ocha) warns that the situation is continuing to deteriorate, and the number of people in need will continue to increase. (More)
